Incorporating Exfoliation into Your Skincare Routine

Incorporating Exfoliation into Your Skincare Routine

Just as nature sheds the old to welcome new growth and brightness, incorporating exfoliation into your skincare routine allows your skin to rejuvenate and glow almost instantly with renewed vitality.

This transformative practice not only reveals a brighter, more radiant complexion but also enhances the effectiveness of your other skincare products. By gently removing dead skin cells, you promote glowing, healthy skin. Consistency is key, and exfoliating 2-3 times a week with the right method for your specific skin type can provide the best results.

How Exfoliation Benefits Skin

Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. These dead cells can lead to congestion and create a barrier that prevents your skin from truly breathing and absorbing the nourishing ingredients found in favorite skincare formulas. By gently removing dead skin cells through exfoliation, you encourage the skin to renew itself, revealing the fresh, vibrant layer beneath.

There are two primary types of exfoliation: physical and chemical.

Physical Exfoliation

When it comes to physical exfoliation, it’s incredibly important to be gentle and intentional. This type of exfoliation involves manually removing dead skin cells through a physical action, as with an exfoliating scrub, face cloth or a specific technique like gommage.

Gommage is a French word meaning “to erase” and refers to a method where a product is applied to the skin and then gently rubbed off, taking dead skin cells along with it.

In the treatment room,Tammy works with Epi-Peel and the gommage technique, which you can easily bring into your at-home care. This combination not only helps to remove dead surface cells but the light, repetitive whisking action of the gommage technique exfoliates and stimulates the skin, encouraging a healthy, vibrant skin texture.

Epi-Peel, formulated with Moroccan Rosemary, Far West Native Spearmint, and mineral-rich clay, cleanses deeply while refining the pores, illuminating the complexion without disrupting the skin's natural protective barrier.

Chemical Exfoliation

Chemical exfoliation uses acids, such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid, to dissolve dead skin cells. Tammy, however, strongly recommends more gentle alternatives, which can have better effects over time.

Tammy loves to work with natural AHAs, and these beautiful remedies provide great benefits without harshness. White Hibiscus, blended into the Restorative Radiance Masque, encourages a more polished, toned complexion while also boosting the skin’s hydration—it's no wonder this ancient remedy is often called ‘herbal botox.’

2-Step Exfoliation Ritual for All Skin Types

Exfoliation is such a beautiful ritual. Combining the pure plant formulas of Epi-Peel and Restorative Radiance Masque in a two-step double masking treatment will bring beautiful luminosity to all skin types. This approach mirrors Tammy’s renowned facials in the treatment room.

STEP 1: Epi-Peel

Begin with freshly cleansed skin, and apply a small amount of Epi-Peel. Use small circular motions, activating micro-circulation before allowing the formula to set for 10 minutes.  The key is to be gentle and patient, investing an extra moment or two in light, repetitive exfoliation. Our goal with exfoliation is to remove dead surface cells without harming the underlying living layers of skin.

To gently remove, employ the gommage technique by using your fingertips with very light pressure flicking movements.

Skin responds best to a loving, gentle touch. When you use less pressure and take your time, you maintain the skin's integrity, ensuring it remains healthy and resilient. Fast, aggressive buffing with a grainy, rough exfoliating cleanser or scrub can cause micro-tears and irritation, which we want to avoid.

STEP 2: Restorative Radiance Masque

Once you’ve exfoliated with Epi-Peel, it’s time to nourish and restore.

Apply a generous layer of Restorative Radiance Masque. This creamy, bisque pink treatment mask is crafted from exquisite flower waters and nutritive exotic extracts. It stimulates cell turnover and replenishes your skin with essential nutrients.

Leave the mask on for just 10 minutes or indulge in its deeper hydration benefits by leaving it on overnight. Either way, your skin will drink in the goodness, emerging soft, radiant, and beautifully balanced.

Follow with Quintessential Serum. Blended with Frankincense and pure essence of Rose, This precious, ultra-concentrated serum provides a wealth of nutrients, and is extremely versatile. Fully replenished, the complexion glows with dewy luminescence.

Complementary Practices

Incorporating non-product tools can enhance your facial experience. A gentle steam treatment with hot water and fresh herbs can help open pores and soften the skin before exfoliation. You can also indulge in a little self-care during the 10 minutes while the treatment mask absorbs, taking a moment to relax—read a book, take a bath, or enjoy a cup of tea.

Rhythm of Renewal

Consistency in your exfoliation routine provides glowing results. Aim to exfoliate up to three times a week, as the skin takes 28 days or more to cycle through its regenerative process. This continuous care helps remove dull surface cells and supports the body's natural renewal.

Enjoy exfoliation as a mindful, soothing ritual. It’s a moment to connect with your skin, to feel its texture and acknowledge its needs. Embrace these practices and let your skin reveal its true, radiant potential.
