I love to experience the world’s mystery through my senses. I never feel more alive than when I’m traveling and tapping into the pine-rich scent of the North Carolina woods or the lilting scent of roses in a medieval French garden. When we allow our senses to expand and to guide our curiosity, they can guide us deeply into transcendental experience.
But discovering the spiritual nature of our connection to the Earth doesn’t require a long-distance flight. While travel awakens new perspectives, spending a beautiful morning walking in your local botanical garden can have the same effect. It’s all in the intention. In fact, a few days ago, walking through my garden with my husband Marc, we were stopped in our tracks by the scent of our ylang-ylang tree. Being available for the wonder is a simple delight.
This month, I’m looking forward to wandering widely and letting my senses—and especially that of scent—lead the way through this beauty-filled season. Experiencing the world in this way makes everything new. Please join me!
